Fragua VIII, Jan 22-24th, 2010 - This retreat was a huge success! With a record-breaking 54 people in attendence, we are happy to welcome Fragua VIII into our Newman Fragua Community. Here are a few testimonies:
"Thanks to Fragua, I found a home away from home, and a second family. I am closer to Jesus than I ever have been. Thanks everyone!"
~Matthew Holmes
"Before Fragua, Faith was unconcious and in critical condition. Fragua gave her CPR and Faith had a pulse once again after five years in a comma. The Newman is a rehab center and the post Fraguas are physical rehabilitation . Let's just say, Faith can now walk and is getting better by the day."
~Amedee Ngarukiye
"Fragua for me was totally amazing. Before Fragua I did not look forward to anything. My life was pretty boring. After Fragua I am just so happy and I can not wait to go to church. I pray all the time now. Before I only did it because that is what I was taught, now I do it because I want to." ~Megan Townley
Freedom in Christ Retreat, October 24-25, 2009. 'I always thought of freedom as not being constrained by anything. I now realize that freedom was given to us for a purpose, in order to choose something'. 'This retreat helped me to bring my relationship with God to what I do on a daily basis: classes, sports, time with my friends'. 'I remember that sunny afternoon on our excursion... everything was at peace in that spot. In this retreat, I felt at times that my soul was at peace. I could only see myself, the Holy Spirit, and nothing else mattered!'
These are some of the testimonies shared among the thirty-eight students and young adults that participated in the Fall retreat. The main theme was the nature of Christian Freedom: freedom as a gift that was given to us in order to choose great ideals. Only this choice is fulfilling.
Priestly Ordination, June 13, 2009. Fr. Matias Constanzo and Fr. Ignacio Llorente were ordained to the priesthood in Villa Dolores, Argentina. Fr. Ignacio is serving at the Newman Center. Fr. Matias is serving at the SSJ house in Cordoba, Argentina.
Camp Tabor, June 15-18, 2009. The best way to describe Camp Tabor is as a great deal: a perfect balance between fun and prayer. It is a four-day camp for high-schoolers designed by the St. John Society and led by college students from St. Mary's Newman Center. You can see images of the event at our pictures section.
Mission to Lebanon, June 17-21, 2009. A group of 14 OSU students participated in this Mission Retreat in Lebanon, OR. Besides being a great time for comraderie, formation and prayer, it was exciting to visit families in the community and to share our testimony with them. Challenging and rewarding!
